Description

In 1984, inventor Harold McMaster founded Glasstech Solar with the vision of making efficient and affordable photovoltaic solar power a reality, a vision that would ultimately evolve into what would become First Solar. Throughout much of its trailblazing journey, the company has faced seemingly insurmountable obstacles and has overcome them all. Many of those victories can be attributed to First Solar’s early visionaries, including Jim Nolan, Peter Meyers, Steve Kaake, Jim Foote, Bob Nicholson, and Larry Crosser, who found it in themselves to meet each new challenge head on.

Today, under the leadership of CEO Mark Widmar, First Solar is recognized as one of the most successful solar panel developers in the world and a leading voice in the renewable energy movement.

While its many triumphs have never come easily, the company’s entrepreneurial can-do culture has always steered it forward. Many at First Solar would say that culture draws from another renewable power source that lives inside each and every one of us—perseverance. This is their story.
